Samsung C&T has been awarded a contract for the construction of Marine Parade MRT (mass rapid transport) station for Thompson-East Coast Line (TEL) in Singapore.

The contract was awarded by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and is said to be worth SGD$ 555 million (US$ 394.7 million).

Samsung will build the Marine Parade station and its associated tunnels, and the contract is part of the construction for the 13km East Coast stretch of the Thompson-East Coast Line with nine stations. The section will run through eastern parts of the island, connecting Sungai Bedok in the east with Tanjong Rhu in the west − an area currently not served by MRT.

Construction will begin in the first quarter of 2016.

Hans Whang, head of civil infrastructure for Samsung C&T, said, “We are honoured to have an opportunity to contribute to Singapore's further transportation development. Based on the strong relationship with LTA, Samsung C&T will draw on an extensive civil infrastructure experience and expertise to deliver outstanding results for the project with our priorities on safety and quality.”

Samsung C&T has completed a number of rail and metro projects worldwide, including Singapore. The company is currently working on the construction of the Downtown Line 3's Expo and Tampines East stations, as well as the TEL's Caldecott station that interchanges with the Circle Line.
